Peoples Camp Delegates Join Women's March Against WTO!

Immediately after the launch of the Coalition of Agriculture Workers International (CAWI) at the Peoples Camp on Food Sovereignty on December 16, women agricultural workers joined the 'Women's March Against the WTO' to the Hong Kong Convention Center (HKCC). The march was organised by the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD). Speaking in front of the Convention Center, Right Livelihood winner Dr. Irene Fernandez (centre), Chairperson of the Pesticide Action Network (PAN) Asia Pacific and Executive Director of the Malaysia based Tenaganita (Women's Force), delivered the "Guilty!" verdict on the WTO, after serving as a judge at both the International Rural People's, and Women's, Tribunal held earlier that day. Initially a delegation from the Women's March had been given permission by police to proceed to the HKCC, but they were later denied access. After two hours of exhausting negotiations with the police, Irene led a small group of women leaders allowed to enter the Convention Center to deliver a protest quilt to world leaders at the WTO MC6.
