Food Sov and Food Safety Training in Mongolia

On March 4 to 6, 2008, a Training and Workshop of Policy Advocacy on Food Sovereignty and Food Safety will be held in Khustai National Park, UIaanbaatar in Mongolia. The training will be organised by the Pesticide Action Network Asia and the Pacific (PANAP), People's Coalition on Food Sovereignty (PCFS) and Center for Human Rights and Development (CHRD) in Mongolia.

This very important activity shall discuss the concepts related to Food Sovereignty and Food Safety, and shall be targeted towards representatives of political parties in Mongolia, for different policy-makers as well as for media practitioners. This effort is very strategic at the moment since Mongolia is set to have its next national elections this year. This training shall ensure that there will be food sovereignty advocates not just from the civil society and communities, but also from other sectors which can influence and effect changes in national policies.

The speakers for the training shall include Dr. Romeo Quijano (PAN Philippines), Gilbert Sape (PANAP), Sh. Gankhuyag and N. Bayarsaikhan (both from People's Alliance for Food Sovereignty).

This training and workshop aims to articulate food sovereignty issues in Mongolia in the context of the upcoming election. It also aims to raise awareness among political parties and policymakers on food sovereignty issues. Lastly, it likewise aims to influence the agenda of political parties on food and agricultural policies.

For more information about the training, please get in touch with the PCFS Secretariat at secretariat@foodsov.org
