Top most mentioned among the goals is the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger around the world. Concretely, it aimed to reduce the proportion of hungry population by half by lowering the number of people who live with the income of less than $1/day.

Call to Action for the People of Gaza and the rest of Palestine

In the current Israel military offensive attack in Gaza, Arab Group for the Protection of Nature (APN), Arab Network for Food Sovereignty (ANFS) and People’s Coalition on Food Sovereignty (PCFS) with the help of FoodFirst Information and Action Network (FIAN) and Habitat International Coalition (HIC) took initiative to urgently call for global support and action from the UNSG, FAO DG, Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food and the High Commissioner on Human rights to take stance and held Israel accountable for its deliberate and systematic destruction of human life, natural resources and civil infrastructure in Gaza and the rest of Palestine.

Maayon, Capiz – Despite the massive protests of farmers and scientists, the Philippines is the first country in Asia to commercialize BT corn in 2002. Unfortunately, Bt corn adoption has grown by leaps and bounds. On line news stated that from just about 11,000 hectares in 2003, Bt corn farms have drastically expanded to nearly 690,000 hectares as of 2011. Bt corn farms span from hundreds to tens of thousands of hectares in the rest of the country’s 14 other regions. The largest Bt corn farms are located in Region 2 or the Cagayan Valley Region in Luzon island and Region 12 or SOCCSKSARGEN Region in Mindanao island.

El Director Ejecutivo de la Fundación Promotora de Cooperativas (FUNPROCOOP), Mauricio Vanegas, condena las presiones de las trasnacionales norteamericanas hacia el gobierno de El Salvador y la Asamblea Legislativa para liberalizar la comercialización de semillas transgénicas en el país.

De acuerdo a Mauricio Vanegas, las presiones de las trasnacionales hacia el Estado salvadoreño de estarían ejerciendo desde la Asociación de Proveedores Agrícolas (APA), Cámara Agropecuaria y Agroindustrial de El Salvador (Camagro) y Asociación Nacional de la Empresa Privada (ANEP).

Bogotá será el escenario para la conjunción de organizaciones, redes y movimientos sociales de Latinoamérica y el Caribe que buscan construir colectivamente una ruta clara y determinante para incidir en los procesos de la ONU y los gobiernos hacia las agendas 2015 y Post-2015. El objetivo principal de la reunión será concretar la manera en la que los movimientos de base, en conjunto con redes aliadas, puedan influenciar en los procesos intergubernamentales y sociales con propuestas que emanen directamente de los pueblos de América Latina, en defensa del bien común global.
